EDITORIAL: Google Experience Launcher, or how to have a Nexus to ... - Android Faqs

continue this week with our editorials, opinion articles that are being very well received by readers on the basis of the number of debates that raise, is that nothing beats a bit of opinion in a world, Android, so full of news and information repetitively. This week we talk, or talk, because it’s time to focus the article in the first person, of one of the latest leaks that have sprung up around Android Kit Kat. The leak in question talks about a future independently installable launcher, Launcher the Google Experience, and could help you convert any terminal market in Nexus, or at least the closest thing to a Nexus .

Since the launchers have always been a subject POLITICAL, and so we discussed my partner Ivan and I in an Android Wars, which I found interesting along this editorial we comment among all the who writes from the article and you from the comments, which can mean the movement of the guys from Mountain View.

Before discussing anything, let’s focus a bit and define what it is that comes your way or rather what it is that seems to come, and that can not be treated as anything official is announced directly by Google. Let’s start

What is Google Experience Launcher?

I guess now we all know roughly what a launcher but, just in case, I’ll explain it as briefly as possible. A launcher is an application placed on Android and replacing the user interface the operating system. If you’ve ever used phones from various manufacturers realized we will have the look and the way you interact with them is completely different even though the operating system is identical in all. That’s exactly one launcher. Samsung has Touchwiz, HTC has Sense, Huawei Emotion UI has, Sony is Xperia Launcher, etc.. They all run on Android and all Android make different to others.

Google Experience Launcher is, or appears to be because, as I recall, not at all mate, a new launcher you can install Android any terminal having at least Android 2.2 Froyo . Froyo This has not been clear yet as many applications and services API changed dramatically in Android 4.0, but the limitation of Froyo may be because this version of Android meant the arrival of JIT, an improvement which increased since then Android own performance and the applications running on it.

In short, Google Experience Launcher be installable from Google Play and would turn any Android on a Nexus . Without further. In addition, provide the appearance of Kit Kat, a version of Android that comes more aesthetically refined than before. It is not known, however, if certain applications would make disappear each manufacturer tied to their launchers. If this occurs, you lose functionality in hardware as specific sensors, etc.. It would, in Christian, like installing an AOSP Android ROM without having any advanced knowledge. Enter Google Play, install and run Google Experience Launcher.

The controversy of the launchers

launchers

For a long time, and even today, few of us did not ask manufacturers to allow us to remove their respective launchers. On many occasions the system too slow providing a lot of functionality that who more and who less just disabling. If you do not uninstall them, then at least disable them. It’s a very common request.

Android

problem with manufacturers not longer that. Like a certain design and certain hardware and you may not like the proprietary coating. It would be the equivalent of each pcs or laptops manufacturer to vary the look of Windows software instead of including itself, as in the world of computers. E n Android, the software manufacturers introduce and modify the appearance . Something that would not be a problem if certain launchers did not cause more harm than good.

The launchers , however, exploit certain hardware features as special sensors, constructions screens or accessories. Features that are lost automatically with changing ROM , and may also disappear launcher installation of Google. As I commented, this is not far from confirmed. The clearest case we have, for example, the S Pen on Samsung for its Note. The screen sensitivity is not lost, of course, and we can still use the S Pen as a pointer, but lose the menus and special accesses the S Pen. could be a real mess in certain manufacturers.

Google

Experience Launcher movement,? intelligent, unique solution or an act of cowardice?

I had

As before, many of us asked for the launchers while you can disable or uninstall. The acceptance of certain launchers as Holo with pure Android look shows that there are few who want to try Android as such, no layers, and perhaps this is where Google has wanted to go with GEL.

Launching this launcher could have three interpretations, at least in my opinion, as I shall explain.

Smart Solution: Google, in a gesture that might seem logical but may have many hours of planning behind, would have placed an item in the market, its launcher, to demonstrate to manufacturers that users want the experience of a Nexus but without having to be in conflict with any of them. Like the Nexus, as devices show that a smartphone or tablet can be sold at a price much lower than that set by the big brands, the GEL could show that Android is aesthetic enough to operate without layers.

It would also enable Google

promote the use of Google Now , the evolution of Google Search and current ES Android assistant. Now it is quite forgotten among the plethora of services and GEL manufacturers could focus much use, demonstrating its power and thus getting more presence in the market.

Unique: The fact that Android is open source, at least it is not relative to the core, this property of Google (hence the forks) could be that Google does not have power to force any manufacturer without his coat or owner launcher. If Google can not tell you to stop using HTC Sense or to dispense with Huawei Emotion, his only asset in this fight would be to launch its own launcher. You leave the choice to the user, the option to choose the look of your terminal, and if you want a pure Nexus experience you can always go and buy the Nexus smartphone or tablet that is at the moment on the market.

coward Solution: Given the power t hat Samsung has Android inside, trying to force the South Koreans, or any other side would stop your launcher could mean it’s flight to Tizen, a most obvious threats. HTC, as have rumors, works on a proprietary operating system for China and could end installed on all terminals. Moreover, the same Taiwanese speak now with Amazon to make Kindle Fire a smartphone with OS. Google may have much more to lose in all this if pressed to its partners, or clients in this case, with the look of your operating system. Could it be that launch the Google Experience Launcher is less confrontational solution to not to budge.

Conclusion and open debate

All that I said is, above all, a set of assumptions based on the Google Experience Launcher really exists and we can enjoy it at any terminal, either Nexus or not. Personally I love since I am a strong advocate of pure Android experience since receiving the radical facelift Honeycomb, released later in Ice Cream Sandwich mobile.

Sony’m using for a year and before that I had HTC HTC and then a Nexus . The Sony launcher dislike and could not say that even I like, but no I am not aware that if uninstallable would be even better. I did the same with Sense and Touchwiz happened to me in the moments I could have a Samsung in my hands. For my part, I wish Google Experience Launcher is a reality.

And you, what do you think? What you would use? What would you change in this?
