6P + Google Google Nexus Fi First Impressions – Thurrott.com (blog)

Google + Google Nexus 6P Fi First Impressions

Back in April, Google Announced Project Fi, an innovative and inexpensive approach to new smart phone connectivity. At that time, only worked Fi woeful With the Nexus 6, but Now That access has-been expanded to better devices like the Nexus 6P and 5X, I Decided to give it a shot.

My testbed for the service will be Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P, Which I Purchased as part of the service. But before getting to That, let’s take a quick look at the promise Fi Project

 fi

According to Google, Fi Project seeks to Overcome some Limitations of the basic connectivity of mobile device today. That is, Because of technical issues and cost, users Often Find Themselves without connectivity. And Between transitioning network types-from cellular to Wi-Fi, for example-is non-seamless Either or, in the case of phone calls and text messaging, not possible.

So Google partnered With the smaller ( THUS and more aggressive) two of the biggest US-based wireless carriers, T-Mobile and Sprint, to create a new wireless service span That Can Both networks and Wi-Fi, and do so seamlessly, even for phone calls and text messaging.

The theory here is that you ‘Should Never Have to Worry About connectivity. When you’re out in the world, your phone will switch to whatever connectivity is best / strongest, on the fly, Including Both Sprint and T-Mobile-cellular-based connectivity and Wi-Fi, Which networks can be “known” to your phone (like at home or work) or Google-verified open, public hotspots. Your data is always encrypted, and your connectivity is optimized so that you ‘re always on the fastest / most reliable network.

As Important, Fi is less expensive than traditional wireless carrier access, and that’s true Whether you ‘re bringing your own phone or not. (That Said, Fi only works with a very limited set of Google Nexus-branded phones currently are.)

So how much does cost Fi? You pay $ 20 per month for Fi Basics, domestic Which includes unlimited talk and text, and the Ability to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Data is $ 10 per GB, so The Least You Could pay for Fi is $ 30 per month.

So far so good, right? Check these out but benefits. If you use less than you paid for the data in a month, you get the difference back in a refund. If you use more, you just pay for what you use.

Wait, there’s more. Internationally If you travel, you get unlimited international texts at no additional cost, phone calls are 20 cents per minute, and your data usage costs the same $ 10 per GB as it does in the US, though bandwidth is limited to 3G speeds, or About 256 kbps

What about phones

Currently, Project Fi is limited to just three phones.? Last year’s dreadful Nexus 6 and This Year’s incredible Nexus and Nexus 6P 5X. Already own a Nexus l 5X, but I wanted to test the Nexux 6P and, as Important, another neat benefit Fi. The Ability to fold a new payment into my monthly phone bill

 nexus6p

” Neat benefit, “you ask? But wireless carriers Have Been doing this for years. Right?

Sure. But With WiFi, you can get a high-end Nexus handset for a very low monthly fee. Recall That in Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program is Brilliant, I Described Apple’s new installment plan for iPhones and Explained why the pricing was in fact reasonable. How Consider this.

On the iPhone Upgrade Program, I pay Apple $ 42.45 a month for a 64GB iPhone 6S Plus, a price That is based on two years of installments. On Fi, adding to 64GB Nexus 6P-which is absolutely the equivalent device from a quality perspective, see below-costs … wait for it … $ 20 per month. Put another way, for just $ 7 more than the cost of the iPhone each month, I get a Nexus 6P Fi Basics (domestic unlimited talk and text, the Ability to use the phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot), and 1 GB of data, Which I can use to boot Internationally. Are you kidding me?

Best of all-I know, there Seems to be no end to the benefits-there are no spurious additional charges on your bill, and you can cancel (or change your plan) at any time: Fi is month-to-month. T-Mobile calls itself the anti-carrier. But Fi really is the anti-carrier … That Assuming of course this all works in real life.

So I’ll find out.

The Fi package-which included the SIM card , the phone, and a goofy set of LEGOs for making a cute docking station (yes, really) -arrived yesterday.

 lay

Because I chose to port over my Google Voice number, phone and text will not work for another couple of days, so I have not Been Able to test connectivity out in the world yet. Another limitation: Works with Gmail Fi only addresses right now, so if you’re using a custom domain on Google Apps, you will need to sign-in to the Fi app on the phone using a different Gmail account

<. p> That Fi app, by the way, super-easy looks, and Provides a live view of your current “cycle” (for me, January 2 to February 2 so there’s nothing to see yet), your plan, your payment method , and plan features like voicemail, call forwarding, alerts, and billing and service. Very nicely done

.

 app

As for the phone … wow.

 sideways

In the Android space, there’s a race of sorts to see Which handset maker can out-Apple the iPhone. Have Some come close: The Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Plus Apple approach all levels of craftsmanship and Have Represented Until Recently, Perhaps, the apex of esta goal. But the Nexus 6P outdoes them all.

It is a beautiful device Which comes in aluminum (gray), graphite (black) or frost (white), and i went for the graphite version with 64 GB of ( non-expandable) storage. The build quality is superb: The body is made of a wonderful, high-quality aluminum That virtually anyone would mistake for an iPhone, Especially from the front. In fact, the 6P even features the same little antenna gaps you see on the iPhone 6 / 6S series, accentuating the similarity.

ack

If Were the Nexus 6P simply an iPhone clone, I’d be unimpressed. But Huawei-sometimes differs from Improves On-Apple’s design in a number of ways. Certainly the rear camera is unique, but it’s not as ugly as it Appeared or protruding When the device was first Introduced. Better, the Nexus 6P fingerprint reader-like that on the Nexus 5X-is Ideally Positioned on the back of the phone, so your finger on it falls naturally When you pick it up. . It is as good as the one on iPhone, meaning it is as fast and reliable

The Nexus 6P screen Also Improves on what Apple provides: It’s 5.7-inches in size, Compared to 5.5 for the iPhone 6S Plus, and yet the Nexus 6P is, overall, a bit smaller than the Apple device (and the exact same thickness). It’s Also of much higher resolution-WQHD 2560 x 1440, As opposed to 1080, or 1920 x 1080 on the 6S Plus-and is AMOLED, of it offers the darkest blacks and rich contrast.

thin

The performance, so far, has-been superb, Thanks to its 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, Adreno 430 GPU, and 3 GB of RAM. . This is a flagship all the way

 wires

The 6P Nexus comes with a strange variety of cable. USB-C for charging, USB-C to USB 2.0, and a longer-C USB to USB 2.0

And I Should mention Android 6.0 Marshmallow, briefly. Over the past few releases Android, Google Android has really Dramatically improved, and while the back user experience-the “whack a mole” grid of icons I always complain about-is nothing special, Google’s whos material design is pretty special. With Android in June, we’re seeing the wonderful, flat material design everywhere THROUGHOUT the UI system, and it just works. . It’s weird to write esta, but almost Certainly Google has the best overall UX design in smart phones today

 home

On That note, the Nexus 6P-like all Nexus devices-you eat with a” pure “

So I need to wait a few days before my Fi account is up and running with voice and text. And Then Actually I need to use this thing out in the world, and probably for some amount of time, treats including business trips, so I can ASSESS reliability and performance. As such, my account-Fi and the Nexus 6P-won’t be my daily driver, and I’ll be sticking with my Lumia 950-and AT &. T for AT LEAST the short term

And of course I understand That buying a Nexus phone-or even an Android phone-is not for everyone. I’d love to see expanded to more Fi phones, and even iPhone. But that’s for the future. For now, I’m just happy to test esta as it is. . That and I’m hopeful it will turn out to be the bargain I believe it to be

6P nexus revisited: How is holding up the device 64 and half days … – TechnoBuffalo

Google’s flagship monster has-been out for a little under three months now, so let’s take a look at how it holds up. When I started using the 6P, overall it was a dream, but as happens Often, the dream Tends to fade. The 6P still totally holds up, but it’s not without STI typical Nexus quirks.

As much as I love the build of the very first ever Huawei manufactured Nexus device, I can not help but feel it’s far too slippery on the back. It’s really difficult to hold in one hand; it’s every bit as difficult to hold as the monstrous Nexus 6. Especially this time of year when it’s a little chillier out, the aluminum body gets cool, and That Makes it even more slick. I like to keep the official Google microfiber case on mine to help with grip, Which is a big deal because i’m normally a naked phone kind of guy.

In the past, the camera on Nexus phones hasn ‘t Been the crowning achievement of the line, but the 6P Changes that. Finally. The optics on the Nexus 6P are phenomenal, but sadly the software can not keep up. For some reason, Google just does not seem to be reliable to put out a good (quick) camera app. If it’s not a radial confusing UI, then a it’s a complete lack of urgency When opening the camera. It’s like the worst example of Murphy’s Law you’ve ever seen. When you do not need to be quick, the camera pops up in a flash, but when you ‘re going to miss your dogs playing, It Takes ITS sweet time. Moment lost.

The rest of the software front is Generally great. Marshmallow is smooth, if light feature, and it has really come a long way. Unfortunately, the 6P That leads me to believe there is still a serious Relatively memory management issue in Android. For a top of the line device, I have a hard time understanding why it needs to be rebooted around eleven week. Every once in a while, the phone just Becomes unusable for 20 minutes until i turn it off. I do not know if it’s something to do With this device, but it happens all too often for me not to mention it.

The Nexus 6P was our favorite phone of 2015, but it’s by no means perfect . Are any of These issues happening to you? Let me know what you guys think in the comments. At Least They got the camera flipped patched bug in Marshmallow!

With this trick you can activate the electronic stabilization … – Teknofilo

 Nexus 5X

Google announced a few months ago two new phones. 6P Nexus and Nexus Nexus 5X 5X is a pretty complete phone for the price, but lacks some of the functionality offering the Nexus chamber 6P, such as electronic image stabilization.

Keep in mind that neither the Nexus and the Nexus 6P 5X feature optical image stabilization, but 6P the Nexus uses a software algorithm to stabilize the photos and video, something that lacks the Nexus 5X.

The good news is that thanks to the user cthuluhoop123 Reddit seems that can enable this functionality on the Nexus 5X

According to the publication, “. Step 1: Go to Build.prop Step 2: Add the line p ersist.camera.eis.enable = 1 Step 3: Reboot and enjoy. You’ll find the option to ativarlo in the camera settings. “

Now, keep in mind that it requires root in the Nexus 5X , so you’re not willing to do, you may not have this functionality.

On the other hand it is possible that Google / LG decided not to incorporate this functionality for a good cause, so maybe the result is not optimal. In any case, why not try it?

Caution: Your Nexus 5X could end up in flames – Androidphoria (blog)

It seems that the new Google Nexus 5X not be rid of heat easily, since users via Reddit have noticed overheating problems . But why should? These problems could be due to the chip, a battery, a cabinet … what these users complain? You can keep “quiet”, because these problems seem to be associated with the battery something that has not a shred of grace to users.

We do not believe, or at least we hope that a Nexus 5X may end up in flames . But now we will tell you what has happened to a user of Reddit and that has to do with the battery . It broke down the back, but we will tell you everything that happened to end as we see in the picture above and not as the next Galaxy that was burned on purpose:

Test fire resistance Edge Galaxy S6 vs. iPhone 6

battery energy storage battery could fail from one moment to another, causing excessive heat. And worst of all this is that this flammable component could end in an explosion, so many users are frightened by what might happen with this.

As seen on Reddit, an owner of Nexus 5X told us his experience with the terminal. What happened is that began to notice excess heat in the pocket of your trousers (where Nexus was 5X). To remove it, he saw that the levels of temperature were so high he had to drop to the ground or otherwise end up burning. Come on, that when touched burned and released him, falling to the ground.

The Nexus 5X can be seen in the above photo. Everything seems to derive from an unusual chemical reaction, causing the excessive heat that even deformed housing . Being plastic, was so hot that the user had to Reddit quick release to avoid burning mobile.

Will the same in Nexus 6P?

We do not know if the Nexus 6P could pass something. What we do know is that it is a super fast and powerful terminal, so we do not. But you never know, as many users have the Nexus 5X and have not reported similar errors .

But A picture is worth a thousand words and this Nexus 5X image with the deformed shell long endure as a reference. The important thing is not burned, though that would be high for the amount of safety testing that are subject to these smartphones. Meanwhile, you can go watching the video above, you might come in handy if you happen to like.

What do you think of what happened with the Nexus 5X? Do you think it could happen or be a case

Review: LG Nexus 5X, the best Android experience – Forbes Mexico

Review: LG Nexus 5X, the best Android experience The Nexus 5X has one of the best cameras, a dual flash, laser focus and fingerprint reader. (Photo: Staff.)

If you want an Android Pure with a great camera and exceptional design, you should definitely try the new smartphone from LG

. Since the birth of the Nexus project, almost six years ago, Google has worked with various manufacturers to deliver the ideal Android experience. This year, success is exceptional.

The first of the two models presented in 2015 to reach Mexico is the LG Nexus 5X, the third collaboration between Google and LG and the first to run the version more Recent house: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

5X is a mid-range phone with two of the best cameras segment, full HD, fingerprint reader and is also one of the first phone. C have a USB port, the emerging standard connectivity that promises many things but perhaps the most important thing is that now we can connect the cable on the first try, not in the third, as we do.

To know whether or not it is worth, try the Nexus 5X and here we tell you what we thought to detail.

C USB port, 5.2-inch screen and 136 grams, the 5X is one of the best phones of 2015.

design and materials. The first thing 5X notes have in your hands is that is light, very light, despite having a 5.2 inch screen weighs only 136 grams. Your body is composed of a brushed aluminum frame, plastic on the back and a display protected with Gorilla Glass 3. Like the Nexus 5 (unlike the Motorola Nexus 6), its weight is well balanced and handle it one hand is not a problem.

Display. Your display Full HD 5.2 inch has the same technology found in the G4, IPS LCD, and though it has a lower density pixels per inch (423 vs. 538 dpi), the resolution is more than enough for almost the edges of objects are not noticed. Still, brightness, color saturation and contrast, the display of the Galaxy S6 is still the best in the category

Performance. LG chose to play it safe after problems that showed the Snapdragon 810 and opt for the 808 chipset 2 processors respectively 4 and 2 cores and combine with 2 GB of RAM. The result of combining hardware with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is a frictionless workflow or complications that does not consume a lot of energy (more on that later).

Cameras: One of the strongest points of 5X. The main camera, 12.3 MP, f / 2.0 autofocus and dual LED laser (with the same technology as the flagship of LG), delivers images with vibrant colors, good contrast and well defined even in low light. It is capable of recording video in 4K and 1080-30 and 720-60 fps fps. You can see some made him take our Flickr account. For its part, the front camera, 5 MP, also has an opening f / 2.0 and is one of the best in the category.

23727953321_b91b8de92a_o

Security This is the first Nexus is to integrate a fingerprint sensor to unlock the computer (and, soon, shopping). And it’s fast, perhaps as much as the iPhone 6S, which gives extra points. The location, although sui generis, it is quite comfortable after a couple of days of use. Placing the center of the back, just where LG usually put the home button-on and off, makes more sense than you might think

Storage. As is a tradition in the Nexus family, 5X not have an expansion slot, so you’ll have to juggle to survive with the 10 GB model available in 16 GB or 26 GB model 32 free.

USB C: This is one of the first teams to incorporate a C USB port, the new standard that we will see more and more teams in the future. The advantages of the port are a higher transfer speed (compatible with USB 3.0) and the convenience of not having a right one and backhand, but can more easily connect to your computer. On the downside, this is such a new technology that the average cost of a cable around 400 pesos, and since the 5x comes with a USB cable C USB C, you need one USB C to USB if your computer does not have the specified port

Battery. Its 2,700 mAh are barely sufficient to overcome the barrier of 24 hours, so nothing spectacular in this department despite functions including the new version of the operating system. It does not help that neither nor 5X 6P Huawei have wireless charging technology. On the positive side, the fast charger fills the battery from 0 to 100% in less than 90 minutes

Marshmallow. The Nexus 5X and 6P are the first phones to have to Android 6.0 factory and do, as always, without any layer of customization. This is pure and direct Android. We have said before in this space: The work done by the Android team has been outstanding and your operating system is in some respects superior to iOS. Marshmallow not intended to be a significant evolution of the experience, but a refinement of various details that become easier and more intuitive. Among the improvements of Android 6.0 are:

  • Doze Mode. A function that puts the phone to sleep when inactive and static takes several minutes, which means that the function is activated only when you leave on a firm surface, not when you bring in the bag. There’s nothing you can do about it, you can not turn it on or off, or set it so that the benefits are virtually invisible.
  • Direct Share. Now you can share photos or links to your most frequent contacts with just a tap, something very practical that we had seen in IOS.
  • Now on Tap. If you’re a fan of Google Now, you now have cards directly from your home button, just touch and hold and the information will be relevant to you.
  • Pay Android. Although not yet available in Mexico, Marshmallow and allows payments via NFC through Pay Android app, which securely stores data on your cards so you can make your payments without contact. Just need to wait for our country. : /

Balance

This year we tried more than 15 high-end phones, and very few of them had so much fun as Nexus 5X. Although the lack of a memory expansion slot and USB C costly cables can play against, the overall experience is exceptional Android Pure, fluid and very simple. His great camera and fingerprint reader make it an excellent choice for its price (9,000 pesos for the 16GB model and 10,500 for the 32 GB or so) and, if looking for a new Android phone, definitely recommend that you take out.

Clearly, the new flagship of Google will have the best chip to date, if no change is this Snapdragon, but us surprise is that Huawei will repeat as a manufacturer, but also all of this information is in the air.

The rumors pointing back to manufacturer Huawei as the next Google Nexus an information still no data continue unless wearing a big screen and in your heart will beat Snapdragon 820 .

Snapdragon 820 points AnTuTu 131 648

What is clear, is that it could happen, and it could really have a terminal in a few months estrenase latest Snapdragon 820 and be a real beast.

The new Google smartphone could be presented in the Google I / O 2016. Something that does not usually happen, but it could be the case if Google looks through the ropes are the new bet. We would have a tablet and a smartphone, although it is possible that only the Nexus tablet in July 2016 .

If this ends up confirming, next month we should have some information about it, because time flies and so far has not been talked about any device for presentation.
