Nexus 6, Google makes the leap to phablet – The World

I have spent almost two weeks using the Nexus 6, the new phone Google Nexus range as a second phone. Manufactured by Motorola, is an unorthodox Mobile for Google. So far Nexus used to be synonymous with mid-range and average benefits. A powerful phone, aimed at developers but in which features such as camera, for example, passed into the background.

Nexus 6, however, seems to occupy the same position they are now moving as LG G3 or Galaxy Note 4. As a phone is huge. The AMOLED screen has 5.96 inches diagonally. It’s bigger even than the Galaxy Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus. It also has a high resolution: 2560 x 1440 pixels. That gives you a very high density of pixels, about 493 dots per inch.

impossible to use with one hand , but this is not new. The phablet (mixture of phone and tablet) has been shown to have a gap in the market in spite of its size and potential buyers already know what the sacrifices that come with larger screen are.

Nexus 6 is incredibly powerful. I’ve been using the final beta version of Android Lollipop, which is outstanding operating system , with a renewed and attractive design, improved notifications and better battery management. Lollipop flying in the Nexus 6.

Google abandons any pretense of staying in the middle range with the Nexus 6. The phone costs 645 euros in its version of 32 GB capacity ( not expandable). But benefits to which no attention was paid before, like the camera, have now been spoiled.

With 13 megapixel resolution and a lens aperture f / 2.0, the Nexus 6 takes sharp images and high quality , in my experience comparable to the iPhone 6 in good lighting conditions (and higher resolution, the iPhone camera has eight megapixels). With less light loses the Nexus 6, but not at all bad for a phone camera

An example:.

The battery was pleasantly surprised. With that resolution and screen size expected a sacrifice autonomy. Easy squeeze one and a half of moderate use. One of the best features of the Nexus 6 is the fast charge mode. When there is a lot of battery in just 15 minutes you can get enough power for about 6 hours of use. Full charge, however, is not so quick. Comparable to other phones of similar dimensions.

I just found a problem with the phone beyond the cumbersome size and display. Despite the high resolution, the AMOLED panel is not particularly good. The brightness is very low , the temperature very warm color and there are chromatic aberrations when not looking straight This photo shows the maximum brightness by the iPhone 6.

The high price of this year’s version also makes you lose a lot of competitive advantage. A Galaxy Note 4 can be achieved today for 720 euros and offers better screen and the ability to use the stylus drawing or handwriting. The X Moto 2014 phone which is inspired by the Nexus 6, can be a good alternative for those who do not want such a great phone and has a much more attractive price (about 520 euros free).

In the end what redeems the Nexus 6 , as in previous years, it is the complete absence of layers of customization, bloatware or duplicate applications . A plague on phones from other manufacturers of Android platform. Also the promise of quick updates with each new version of Android. It’s a shame that you can not say the same for most phones.
