Steam Machines, "computers Nexus" Valve - Omicrono

During this week we have seen several announcements from Valve related to his attempt to conquer the living room. If there is anything certain is that not have it easy with the advent of next-generation consoles, but also probably the best time to try. And for that, Valve has a plan of action that reminds me very much to another company who entered a hostile market but has finished triumphing over the rest: Google, Android and Nexus devices.

Let’s start with the obvious: Valve has developed its own Linux-based operating system with its own services, called SteamOS. Thanks to the freedom that gives free code, you can schedule and distribute this system without having to pay anyone accountable, settling as a real alternative to Windows and MacOS. That alone is striking, but the truth is that the end user cares rather little. Only the most enthusiastic formatted your computer to install SteamOS , so this can only be a first step in the plan.

Where

Valve truly impact the industry is with Steam Machines, computers preisntalado SteamOS created in collaboration with some of the leading manufacturers of the market. These devices should be the best representation Valve System , showing other manufacturers so you can do with it and marking guidelines.

Similarities with Google and Nexus devices are amazing. Google also began from to create your own Linux operating system integrated with their services, offering to manufacturers. But I knew that was not enough, and signed temporary alliances with top manufacturers in every moment to launch their Nexus devices. These represent the ultimate Android device, a reference to the other manufacturers at least have to match.

Clearly

Valve intends to follow in the footsteps of Google, using the Android and Nexus scheme to computers . His triumph is as likely as their failure, it is not the first company that has tried to launch “the final PC” and found the tremendous strength of a market accustomed to the variety and freedom of choice. It is therefore quite possible that the key to achieving its goal Valve is not closing the platform, both in terms of software (hence SteamOS can freely download and install), and the hardware. For example, it would be tragic if the Steam Machines graphics cards use only one brand, since it would create a monopoly. A threat has already materialized during these days.
