Nexus 7 edition 2013, analysis

Aug. 28 went on sale in Spain edition 2013 Tablet Nexus 7 Google launched in 2012. This second version, which is still manufactured by ASUS can be found in stores like Media Markt, El Corte Ingles, Worten, Fnac and Eroski and Google Play , which is accompanied by the protective neoprene (29.99 euros), although I’m sure more accessories will soon.

few days after its filing, Google sent us a unit of its Nexus July 2013 edition for the probáramos, specifically the model of 16 Gbytes of storage capacity (which sells for 229 euros ), but there is another 32 GB with a price of 269 euros . We have to clarify that it is a tablet that only has WiFi connectivity, no 3G/LTE, still do not know when this model will arrive in Spain, although in the United States is already announced and that indicates that any operator could be encouraged to launch a new Nexus 7 together with 4G data rate.

Then we leave with our impressions after having been using the new Nexus 7 during the last ten days, a tablet that has greatly improved in four areas-size, screen, processor and camera-relative to the first version. The experience could not be better, though not anticipate events.

A 7-inch tablet is not small?

philosopher would say, it depends. Each user is a world, there are people who can not conceive of a tablet that is less than 10 inches (or similar, I am user of iPad and although the screen is 9.7 inches, fits into this category) and another that seeks primarily mobility and 7-inch format seems ideal.

Perhaps the discussion is between 8-inch tablet (iPad mini has a 7.9 inch screen, and there are others like LG G Pad or Samsung Galaxy Note 8 ) and 7 inches as the Nexus 7, but the most important thing for me is that, once you’ve decided that you could grab your tablet with one hand is all you need, you should seek the ratio and proportion regarding Google tablet is perfect, it may be more convenient to use.

The secret is found in their 290 grams (the future 3G/LTE model, if it comes to Spain, will weigh 299 grams) and more moderate dimensions than the previous version: 114 x 200 x 8.65 mm (the novelty is in the thick, 10.45 mm skip the July 2012 edition of Nexus to the aforementioned 8.65 mm, and width, from 120 mm remains in 114 mm). The result is that now the Nexus July 2013 is easier to use, a real plus for ASUS engineers.

An impressive display

If we felt a hit the “thinning” of the Nexus July 2013, the screen deserves applause. The previous model was 1200 x 800 pixel resolution and a density of 215 ppi, but the 2013 version of ASUS / Google have “taken the rest” and have opted for a HD screen (covered by Corning Gorilla glass) of 1920 x 1200 pixel with a density of 323 ppi .

improving upon the screen it shows in the sharpness and realism of what you’re viewing, including games, videos or photos, in addition, the 16:10 aspect ratio is perfect for watching movies and accompanied with surround sound, whether through headphones or speakers to the Nexus 7 makes the experience of watching a video of something very satisfying.

regarding the brightness, because as the saying goes, “about tastes there are colors.” The Nexus 7 adjusts the screen brightness automatically, but there are people (like me) who prefer to have the brightness “butt” (this you can choose), but the battery will suffer for this choice.

a good processor, but not the best

micro quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz Tablet Nexus 7 improves previous 2013 edition, but it is far from the “Cutting Edge”. With respect to processing power, the people at Google / ASUS has decided to stay at an intermediate point in price not to penalize the new version and, above all, for the battery, reduced from a capacity of 4,325 mAh at 3,950 mAh, not much resented.

The reality is that the apps move more freely in this new edition of the Nexus 7 and the Android 4.3 operating system (Jelly Bean) is very light. And autonomy is not bad, about 8-9 hours of use active if this time is not used in the non-stop video playback.

Nexus 7

welcomes camera

Although not high on a tablet the quality of your camera (I personally do not draw pictures rarely use the tablets), the fact is that many users had complained about the lack of a camera (not the front , he did have, we talk about the rear) in the first Nexus 7. Google / ASUS have not turned a deaf ear to this request and, together with the front camera (1.2 megapixels), have included a 5 megapixel rear and autofocus.

Go ahead

not the best camera in the world but not the worst. Then we leave you with some examples of pictures taken indoors and outdoors. Although we noticed overexposure and that there are details that are blurred, our assessment is positive.

Conclusions

All changes introduced Google (helped by ASUS, which is the manufacturer) in the 2013 edition of the tablet Nexus 7 are a success. Highlight the resolution and sharpness of the screen, good performance / autonomy of their micro and drums, and the fact that its format is very convenient to use. Without doubt the best tablet I think its category and therefore deserves our award “Recommended Product”.
