Nexus 10, the best Android tablet that nobody buys - ALT1040

When Google Nexus extended family last October introduced the Nexus 10 , a 10-inch tablet with some interesting specifications that painted a quite powerful product. However, months later, despite the buzz generated around the product, sales of this device are alarmingly low.

last October, Google officially launched the smartphone Nexus 4 and Nexus Tablet 10 but, yes, it had to be done through their website because the ravages of Hurricane Sandy in New York had forced the suspension of the event. The tablet Nexus 10, which had been developed by Samsung, we offered a device with a high-resolution multi-screen and powerful GPU, I remember well these specifications because there were some other complaints for not doing too much emphasis on them and, as usual, came the comparisons to the Apple iPad. The Nexus 10 extended the offer of the Nexus 7, a tablet which has sold about 6.8 million units, however, despite the power of the device and its capabilities estimated sales of only Nexus 680,000 tablets 10 in these seven months (and why in the Christmas season are usually sold While such gadgets ).

So what does this mean? Is the Nexus October 1 bad device? do not think the tablet Nexus 10 is a bad device from the point of view of hardware or its performance but on the data published it is clear that not a device that has been well received in the market (especially when compared to the Nexus 7 or with tablets from other manufacturers). Particularly, the data seems particularly relevant, especially if we go back in time and review some comments “angry Android users” comparing the resolution of the Nexus 10 with the Apple iPad or criticized than the Nexus 10 gave less coverage, however, if this tablet is so good and so much excitement arose among the most fervent advocates of Android why not buy it?

In fact, if you look at the Microsoft Surface, which also has special market acceptance, sales of this tablet are around 1.5 million units sold and that the data is assumed to be well below the expectations I had Microsoft with this product. Put another way, a good device with a strong performance unless sold criticized Microsoft Surface (as well commented on BGR).

Why

sales of the Nexus 10 are so low? Is there no market for such a device? Given the fact that I use smartphones Android (plus a BlackBerry), I think the main problem Android is Android . The tablet market is saturated with this platform and tablets can find all kinds of services and prices, in fact, though not enough tablets Android Amazon also carry inside.

Eric Schmidt commented the other day at an event, Android penetration is due to cheap terminals and, with such a philosophy, is rewarding the “easy sell” in front of the user experience and sales although this philosophy accompany the Android ecosystem is harmed. Although Google launched a good device to market, it will be affected by the same policy they promote. There are many Android tablets on the market that offers a nefarious user experience (less than 100 tablets € even) and still sell well and fulfill the maxim of “extending Android to all users” but in the end, with both cheap device on the market, the effort to develop a good product as just totally wasted Nexus 10 .

Perhaps the strategy

enclosing the Google X Phone can serve to change the spiral in which Google has gotten to Android despising and prioritizing user experience penetration. May intervene full product development cycle (there was talk of a range of terminals) help them change this philosophy “cheap product” that floods the market and, thus, can to value products like the Nexus 10 should have had a greater impact on the market.
