With the Nexus, we needed the eggs – Hypertext

In the final scene of Annie Hall, its director and star, Woody Allen, he remembered a joke:

A man goes to the psychiatrist and says “my brother is mad, he believes a” chicken”. The psychiatrist responds: “why do so leads to the madhouse?”. And the man replies: “I would, but I need the eggs.”

The consumer technology seasoned it takes years with this same problem: you know that “Nexus” doesn’t mean “cheap”, and that sooner or later would have to assume that what happened in 2012 and 2013 was a blip, not the rule to follow. But I needed the eggs.

Translated: was too nice the idea of having smartphones more than decent prices unless dirt cheap (Nexus 4 and especially the Nexus 5), and updated by Google almost immediately to the release of each new Android, as to admit to yourself that that scenario had more dyes of failure in Matrix pattern for the industry.

Another fact has been playing against the collective memory of the consumer technology. We pointed out: “consumers of technology”, happily, as we all are, so that we will distinguish between “with devotion by the cacharreo” (which we occupy), and “with dreams to change the mobile”. For the first, it is highly likely that your passion for the gadget will come when the smartphone was already starting to settle, which is why the Nexus 4 and later have a hole reserved in the memory, while the Nexus earlier (and were three) are memories blurred.

The Nexus 5 was not a mobile phone, was the consolidation of an idea. The camera was still no match to the high end of then, like the autonomy, but for everything else it did justice to the phrase “doing the same thing for half the price”. And the consumer, happy. The bladder campion came with the Nexus 6, which ended up taxed where it dwells oblivion: for its price seemed to suggest that now, yes, now we were in front of a high-end with all the letters, so the price had to go along, and that had to be assumed that the terminals of null commercial benefit had become a thing of the past.

The facts, which tend to be lethal with the charlatans, they left an impression unanimous: despite his best autonomy (at the cost of grow up to 6 inches) and a good performance, the Nexus 6 was a terminal bad in quality-price ratio, being its screen and its camera is the main responsible. Trout sold at a price of seafood on the eve of christmas Eve.

In 2015, Google realized that the Nexus 6 was too disappointing, in the qualitative and commercial, and opted to return to a model more like the one it had until now: an option slightly more affordable but of quality, the Nexus 5X, and the other option is more of everything: size, specifications and price.

The replacement of Nexus by Pixel to help to remove a stigma cronificado that fed expectations of low prices

With the passage of months, the 5X I began to get mouth-watering discounts up to achieve something similar to what was the Nexus 5 at the time. But for one reason or another, the brand Nexus, perhaps a victim of its own inconsistencies and jolts in search of his own DNA, he has lost the weight they once had.

After many rumors for years, it seems that this time is the good: Google sacrifice the brand Nexus in favor of Pixel. And the next October 4 will debut the first smartphones Pixel.

Nexus has escaped from the indifference in which he was detained. Today, renamed as the Pixel to be able to get dressed up with premium prices without blushing for a past demanding, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have any problem and you find it, you may be able to hire him. But be warned: seems to be difficult for Google to give facility of payment.
