One of the methods used by some companies in the IT sector with the aim of improving the safety of their products and services, is to offer rewards to those who achieve to detect vulnerabilities and security holes. This has been a standard practice at Google, which this time has a striking proposal for hackers white hat.

In the blog of Project Zero, which is one of the safety divisions at Google, informs that the company offers huge sums of those who achieve to hack a Nexus phone.

Through a contest that started on the 13th of September, and will run until march 14, 2017, Google will select the winner of a top prize of us $ 200,000. For the second place has been assigned a prize of USD 100,000, and for the third place $ 50,000.

The models that must be hacked in order to qualify are the Nexus 6S or Nexus 5X. The grants must meet a number of requirements, among which is that vulnerabilities should make possible the execution of code on the devices.

Also, the vulnerabilities must be demonstrated in real-time in the offices of Google, for which only you will have an e-mail address and the phone number of the device. That is to say, it is not accepted other interaction apart from opening an email or a text message. The participant may request to Google to install specific versions of programs.

The procedure itself must be practical from the perspective of an attacker. That is to say, Google will not accept contributions that require too much of the time, that interfere substantially with the use of the apparatus, or otherwise give clear indications that the attack is being performed.

Neither will it be possible to include vulnerabilities before September 13.

The competition is global, and only apply restrictions to some countries. Participants must be 18 years as minimum, and not be employees of Google. Complete information is available on the website of Project Zero.
