Nexus Analysis 5: A good, nice and cheap – IGN Spain

Nexus phones Google , such as the recently introduced Nexus 5 , have been the Holy Grail of Android fans since the Nexus One does hit the market almost four years. With rapid updates without operators get their hands on your phone software, users could experience the Google operating system as conceived by the company. However, sales were never spectacular, at least, compared to other devices from Samsung, HTC or Apple, but it is also true that was never the goal. Nexus phones there to serve as champions of Google and what Android can do.

Nexus 5 follows the footsteps of its predecessors, with powerful hardware and, as I did at the time Nexus 4 with an unbeatable price. Fortunately, in this case with LTE compatibility from the start, so problems other versions are also fixed. But the most important thing here is that Nexus 5 is the first device with Android 4.4 KitKat , the latest version of the platform. Have got LG and Google perfectly with this phone? Read on to find out.

The phone is based on the recently launched LG G2 and is equipped with the same hardware that has the manufacturer’s current flagship. This includes a Snapdragon 800 and 2 GB of RAM, for example, but not the back button. G2 was already one of the fastest end of the day, but sometimes was impaired by its software. However, Nexus 5 is a pure version of Android making the same components have perfect performance. And the tests confirm

3 In Geekbench, Google phone and LG outperformed at Galaxy S4 and HTC One in both tests one or several nuclei, and placed just below Galaxy Note 3 . For 3DMark, was among the aforementioned S4 and LG G2. Nexus 5 is definitely hardware enough to move everything smoothly, without forgetting the help we have Android KitKat.

The latest version of Android is also the best overall looks, with small changes in fonts, colors, design interface and navigation. All this leads to a more refined look where you can see what the platform has evolved, especially through the screen Nexus 5 . The now clear navigation, status bar, the new home screen or menu neater applications can be much more enjoyable with the help of a fast transitions.

Broadly, a smartphone today day is a box with a screen on one side and Nexus 5 fits that description perfectly. There is virtually nothing that stands out on the phone from a physical point of view, beyond the camera and the logo found in the rear. In fact, it might even appear that this is a prototype

However, this is not a bad thing. Nexus 5 does not draw much attention, but has a clean, simple and practical design. You do not have the same premium look that other phones get aluminum or faux leather, but at least it has no fragile glass lid, like its predecessor or some older iPhone models. On the side of the device are located volume control (left) and the release button and off and the SIM card slot (right). The top is reserved for headphones, microUSB while the entrance is on the bottom, accompanied by the speakers. The body is made of a rubbery plastic that is both soft and firm and the back is slightly curved, which allows the phone to hold it comfortably in the hand.

IPS LCD screen of 4.95 inches has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a density of 445 pixels per inch. As a result, photos, video, games and even typography are fantastically. The device automatically adjusts the brightness, which may impact on battery life.

When the new model Nexus was announced, there were doubts about his ability to be on for long periods of time. Its 2300 mAh battery is significantly lower than that of G2 and really only represents a small change from the Nexus 4. And in some cases concerns were justified.

Those who do not have moderate use problems to reach the end of the day on a charge. However, those using the phone a lot and the players will have much more complicated. Between emails, messages, streaming music, podcasts and social networks Nexus 5 had trouble completing an 8-hour day. And what’s worse, the games have consumed much faster

Spend half an hour with Plant vs.. Zombies 2 or Kingdom Rush: Frontiers supposed to lose about 20% battery. The video has a less dramatic effect, down 6% after a series of 22-minute Netflix. In any case, if you plan to use your phone with some regularity, I agreed to have a charger handy. Luckily, it supports wireless charging, so this may help solve the problem

The 8 megapixel camera Nexus 5 capture high-quality images, but not reaches the level of the best devices in the market. The optical image stabilization and a new HDR mode + help a lot, especially in low light, which is where this camera shines more. But overall the images have less color, less clarity and captured at a slower rate. Sometimes the time between the press and image capture can be very annoying, even under optimal conditions. The moving pictures can also be a problem and result in a blurred image.

Anyway, the most problematic of the camera is the application itself. Samsung and LG have found a way to give Android users many functions in well-designed interfaces, but Nexus 5 is not as intuitive. All controls are hidden in radial menus also give few capture options. Considering how careful you are with the Android interface KitKat, it’s a shame that the same level of detail has not reached the camera.

Verdict

Nexus 5 is in its own league. You can not have the most powerful battery or the finest materials, but has a powerful interior, a beautiful screen, and of course, the purest version of Android KitKat for only 349 euros.

Is Nexus 5 the best phone on the market? No, you should not expect it to be. But for the price, there is nothing that can compete even remotely with the latest Google and LG. If you care about the price and do not want to commit to a contract, there is no better option

Best:

– Amazing Price

.

– Android 4.4

– Fast as lightning

– almost immediate updates

worst:

– The battery life disappoints

– Poor camera application

Note: 8.7
